Jakob Breum is on the market with Go Ahead Eagles prepared to sell their attacking midfielder.
Celtic were heavily linked with Breum last summer but ended up being criticised by the Go Ahead Technical Director.
Adding insult to injury Marv van Hintum praised the negotiations that took Oliver Antman to Ibrox.
There is some value in being tough negotiators. Equally being praised for your transfer dealings might suggest that negotiations were one sided.
However Celtic’s problems in transfer activity last summer was well documented with Breum and other reported targets slipping by.
In the closing days of the transfer window around £10m was spent of Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Sebstian Tounekti.
Balikwisha started just two SPFL Premiership matches, Tounekti started 18 and made nine appearances off the bench.
Discussing Breum’s situation the Glasgow Times reports:
The Dutch club’s technical director, Marc van Hintum, said: “Jakob is only under contract for another year and does not want to sign an extension.
“That means he is allowed to leave if a good offer comes in, but so far that has not happened.
“There is nothing concrete happening yet.”
Celtic were strongly linked with Balikwisha in the summer of 2024 before signing him from Standard Liege in 2025.
With one year left on Breum’s contract his value is likely to have decreased from the £5m reported last summer.
BREUM AND THE CELTIC RECRUITMENT PUZZLE
Celtic’s entire recruitment structure remains something of a mystery.
Paul Tisdale appeared to be the driving force a year ago but the Head of Football Operations left the club on January 5.
There has been no club announcement on a successor with fans left to speculate and put together jigsaw pieces to work out what is going on.
The June 11 announcement of Martin O’Neill as manager came in the form of a club statement only. There has been no media conference or in-house video interview.
With pre-season training starting on Friday fans will be hoping for signings- and comment from the club after four weeks of virtual silence since winning the Scottish Cup.
Celtic’s first pre-season friendly is away to Shelbourne on July 7.
