Jane Lewis got a very blunt answer when she asked Phil Clement about James Tavernier turning down offers to leave Ibrox.
Not one offer was made throughout the transfer window. No clubs in Turkey or Saudi Arabia or elsewhere are interested in the ageing defender that can’t defend.
The Daily Record and BBC Scotland have been at the front of the FAKE NEWS production on Tavernier with claims of interest from Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq and Giovanni van Bronckhorst now that he is managing Besiktas.
Since both of them know how mentally weak the former Wigan ace is they are less likely than others to put their faith in the man who has watched Celtic winning 19 of the last 24 domestic trophies.
With a salary nudging £2m a year and his club looking to slash costs the Ibrox bean-counters would love to see the back of Tavernier but no club will be matching that salary for a full-back that turns 33 next month.
After all the disappointments Tav knows that sticking it out for two more seasons will see him pocket a Testimonial Match on top of his massive salary.

PC: I don’t know what is real about all these rumours. So, there were no offers in the club in that way. Um so he has been for sure the player, for me in Scotland and in all my career who has made so many transfers already without anything happening.

When Lewis was thanked by Brendan Rodgers last season for an interview where the SMSM made a mountain out of a molehill from his throwaway remark , the Scottish version of the publicly funded BBC said that she was a ‘ freelance ‘ scoop ! Now , this season she has been described as the same outfit’s ‘ chief sports reporter ‘ , or something similar ..who knows . Go figure that wee puzzle out ?
