David Friel gives his verdict on Kieran Tierney ‘injury’

David Friel of The Sun has dismissed scare stories that Kieran Tierney is facing a lengthy spell out injured.

The defender was substituted after 70 minutes against Falkirk on Saturday which followed on from a 71 minute appearance in the 5-1 defeat from LASK.

As the only first-team left-back at the club Celtic are heavily reliant on Tierney, almost dependent on him.

Most of the chat during the transfer window has been about signing a reliable back-up to reduce the dependency on the former Arsenal man.

With no real basis rumours over the weekend claimed that Tierney was facing a long spell on the side-lines.

Frail has been the reporter closest to Celtic’s limited transfer activity in recent months.

With that in mind his take on the supposed Tierney injury is of value.

Speaking on Super Scoreboard on Radio Clyde last night Friel said:

I know there’s been lots of stuff flying about again about Kieran Tierney. I’m told it’s not anywhere near as serious as um people are making out and he could even be fit for midweek. I’m not saying he’s going to play, but there might be the option for that to happen.

So, Celtic need to help, they need for him because he’s not going to play every minute of every game. Are Celtic going to play 60 games this season?

CELTIC TOIL TO SOLVE THEIR TIERNEY DILEMMA

Last season Marcelo Saracchi arrived on loan from Boca Juniors as cover for Tierney in a move that seemed to suit all parties.

The Uruguayan internationalist started 8 SPFL matches and came off the bench in a further 11. In the title clincher against Hearts Saracchi made the decisive run that created Daizen Maeda’s late goal.

Only Michael Nicholson will know how he failed to convert the tap-in of all tap-ins during the close-season break.

It seems that the Celtic CEO has been pinning all of his hopes on Chelsea’s teenage defender Landon Emenalo to provide cover for Tierney.

Unfortunately it appears that Emanalo is also injured.
